What about kissing culture? It comes from Rome where, in ancient time, a marriage was not legal if couple do not kiss each other. The kiss was necessary step to legalize the bond necessary to seal all contracts. This is what seems to be a possible origin of the present day’s custom of banging a spoon on a glass until the newlyweds kiss.
Another prevailing custom is having your dad walk you down the aisle. Have got any idea where this custom originated? In very old time, a woman was assumed her father's property before her marriage, and after her marriage, she was her husband's property. So, as a sign of transferring rights, her father would literally "give her away," to the husband on her wedding. The trend has changed a bit, now fathers or both the parents accompany brides and have the officer ask "Who supports this couple in marriage?" The parents answer "We do."

Who doesn’t know about honeymoons? There is no need to explain it. But do you know where the term comes from? From ancient Ireland where the couple were supplied a drink made from fermented honey called mead, which is said to last full cycle of the moon. This was to assure that they would be blessed with a son within a year.

How come a groom carries the bride in her house? In ancient time it was feared that a bride could be forced by a captor to marry, the groom would have to take her against her will into her new home. The Romans thought it to be a bad luck for a bride to trip over the threshold hence they had the groom to carry her.
