Brides are always in white, right? Not so. In earlier times brides wore vibrant color wedding dresses to reflect their joy. Brides, specially western ones, didn't find white as fashionable until Queen Victoria wore it at her wedding to exemplify her status. White dresses never meant to symbolise purity until the Churches bestowed that label to them. There is nothing wrong to add a little color to your wedding dresses.

In ancient time wedding bands were made of hemp or braided grass rings. They were later replaced by durable metals until about the 15th century when diamonds stole the show. They also signify a valuable strong commitment and became a tradition which most modern couples choose to keep.

In old time when wives were "captured" by their grooms when afraid of evil spirits they would cover the woman's head to keep her from being recognized.

Bridesmaids' dresses are always identical. Where did this trend begin from? The history suggests that, the long ago, brides accompany would wore the same outfits as the bride’s wedding dresses so that to confuse the ill spirits who wanted to destroy her joy; It also worked against any possible attack or kidnap of the bride by a rival suitor.

The receiving line also comes from an ancient belief which has it that, on their wedding day, the bride and groom bring good luck to everyone they touch to. It has slightly changed in modern time. Now couples often pass on this and prefer to "make the rounds" inviting their guests during the wedding dinner.
